Biography

Susan Lucci was born in Scarsdale, New York on December 23, 1946, the same year that she was originally named Susan Victoria Lucci. In Garden City, she was raised by her mother Jeanette, father Victor (a building contractor), and older brother James.

During her time at Garden City High School, Susan participated in the cheerleading squad, wrote for the school newspaper, and performed in productions such as ‘West Side Story’ and ‘The King & I’. After graduating in 1964, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in drama from Marymount College in Tarrytown in 1968.

After college, Lucci relocated to New York City, where she worked as a color girl for CBS, landed understudy roles in off-Broadway plays, and began appearing as an extra in movies.

Personal Life

Susan got married to Austrian chef Helmut Huber on September 13, 1969, and they were given their first child, Liza, in 1975 and Andreas, in 1980. Liza followed her mother’s footsteps and began acting in soap operas, first appearing on NBC’s ‘Passions’ in 1999. In 2022, they will split.

Lucci’s passion for LGBT rights led him to participate in the Broadway Sings for Pride charity event in 2019.

Career

In 1967, Susan Lucci began her acting career by portraying a minor character on Love Is a Many Splendored Thing. In the same decade, she also appeared in small parts in Goodbye, Columbus, and Me, Natalie. Susan Lucci played Erica Kane on All My Children in 1970, making her most famous. For the entire decade, she performed in this show.

Lucci won her 19th nomination after being nominated for her first Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, despite being nominated for it in 1978. Susan’s performance on the show resulted in her being hired to host “Saturday Night Live” in 1990, and Mattel made Erica Kane dolls in 1998 and 1999.
