It is unfortunate that Frank Gifford, Kathie Lee’s second husband, died on August 9, 2015, from natural causes at their Greenwich, Connecticut residence. At his death, he was 84 years old. Kathie Lee has never been married after losing her second husband.
Career
In her Miami home, Kathie Lee Gifford began working as a secretary and babysitter for Anita Bryant. After she met her first husband, Paul Johnson, who was a composer, producer, and publisher, in 1970, she kicks start a career as a vocalist on the game show Name That Tune with Tom Kennedy. In 1978, she was cast as the female lead in the Hee Haw sequel Hee Haw Honeys
She was chosen to play Nurse Callahan for nine months while visiting a friend on the set of ‘Days of Our Lives’. She performed as a singer on ‘Name That Tune’ during 1977-78. Due to this exposure, I was able to pursue various career opportunities, including a role in the TV sitcom ‘Hee Haw Honeys’.
In 1981, when a producer of ‘Good Morning America’, an American morning television show, heard her host an A.M. radio show, she invited Gifford to the show to do some reporting. On GMA in New York, Gifford would occasionally fill in for Joan Lunden. In 1983, she divorced her first husband and moved to New York City where she started appearing on the televised show.
In June 1985, she took over the role of co-host of ‘The Morning Show’ on WABC-TV, replacing Ann Abernathy. In 1988, the program was reintroduced as ‘Live!’. Regis and Kathie Lee helped make her widely known across the country. Their chemistry was a major factor in their instant success. In July 2000, she left the show to devote herself solely to her musical career.
