Howell Stouten Wayans, the father, owned a supermarket, while his mother, Elvira Alethia, devoted herself to social work and homemaking. Wayans was born the youngest out of 10 siblings and grew up in housing projects in New York City.
He has five sisters: Kim Wayans, Elvira Wayans, Diedre Wayans, Nadia Wayans, and Vonnie Wayans, and four brothers: Shawn Wayans, Damon Wayans, and Keenen Ivory Wayans, and Dwayne Wayans who all are notable artists of the same industry.
