When it’s time to do a major house remodel, guess what the most popular room to redo is? If you said the kitchen you would be right, but today we are going to focus on the second most re-doable room in your home, the humble bathroom! It shares something in common with the kitchen, the need for sturdy waterproof flooring that can handle being wet!

When you are planning your bathroom remodel, the type of flooring you go with is one of the most important choices you are going to make. You want it to look fantastic of course, and clean up nicely with the help of your handy bathroom floor brush, and never be too slippery when wet! Fortunately, there are a plethora of great bathroom flooring options you can choose from, so let’s take a look at your options!

Ceramic Tile – This is the old standby, at one time it might have been 9 out of 10 bathrooms had tile floors, but other options have since emerged! Even so, ceramic tile is still one of the most popular bathroom floorings on the market. Tile offers a classic, clean look that also happens to be waterproof and extremely durable. The first thing you will need to decide upon when choosing a tile floor design is the colour, and any patterns. Pure white bathroom tiles gleam, but they are a bit hard to keep clean, the grime shows quickly! On the other hand, nice, neutral grey bathroom tiles are easy on the eye and not difficult to maintain. Or, throw out all of the neutral nonsense and go bold with alternating black and white chequers! If you are also going to have shower and bath tiles, countertops, or a tiled bathroom wall, you will want to match the design on the floor.

Vinyl – Vinyl is by far the most budget-friendly bathroom flooring options available that can do the job it’s intended to do! Vinyl is waterproof, stain proof, easy to clean, and softer on those bare toes than tile if you also install a felt or foam backing, which you should definitely do! Vinyl is also slip proof so you won’t need to worry about those slip-and-fall accidents when the floor is wet. The colour? They have just about anything you can think of!

Cork – Cork is a highly renewable resource that’s made from bark, and is considered to be very environmentally friendly. Cork flooring is resistant to mildew, mould, and water damage, in other words, it’s perfect for a bathroom! You can get glue-down cork tiles that are either finished or unfinished that are suitable for above-grade applications, but for below-grade bathrooms you will need to use click-in-place planks.

Bamboo – Once only found in tropical island huts or Japanese tea houses, bamboo has grown into a major contender on the materials market due to its many advantages! Bamboo flooring is eco-friendly and inexpensive, a truly renewable resource that goes for half the price of hardwood floors. The planks are incredibly durable and the perfect solution for wet environments. Bamboo is easy to install, and its a simple fix to replace damaged pieces.

Now, kick off your shoes and enjoy your new bathroom floor!
