Biography
Antonio and Francesca, who worked as dressmakers, were the parents of Donatella Francesca Versace, who was born on May 2, 1955, in Reggio Calabria, Italy. Her family had four children, with her being the youngest. In 1973, she began studying languages at Florence University in Italy. Her brother Gianni, who had a close relationship with her, encouraged her to pursue a career in fashion.
During her studies at the University of Florence, she concentrated on languages and the arts, which allowed her creative talents to flourish. Donatella was only able to find her true place in the fashion world after moving to Milan in the late 1970s. Assisting with design and public relations, she became a key member of the Versace brand while working alongside her brother Gianni.
Personal Life
Allegra (born 1986) and Daniel (born 1989) are the two children that Donatella and American model Paul Beck had when they tied the knot in 1983. The couple ended their relationship in 2000.
Subsequently, she married Manuel Dallori briefly in 2004, but the marriage ended in 2005.
Career
When Gianni founded Versace in 1978, Donatella joined him in starting her career. Her initial intention was to handle public relations, but she quickly became a crucial part of the creative process. Gianni had so much faith in her insight that he created a brand called Versus just for her and named her Blonde perfume in the 1980s.
Donatella’s creative talents became even more apparent in the 1990s. Donatella assumed the role of Creative Director at Versace after her brother Gianni was tragically killed in 1997. Her leadership allowed the company to maintain its status as a global fashion powerhouse. With a new vision and fresh energy, she reinvigorated the brand, keeping it at the forefront of luxury fashion.
The Victoria and Albert Museum in London showcased Gianni and Donatella’s most famous design in 2002. Honor was bestowed upon the design and brand for their worldwide success. Donatella was responsible for designing the luxurious and grand resort ‘Palazzo Versace’ that is situated on the Gold Coast, Australia. Versace furniture and beddings are available in the lavish rooms of the Burj al-Arab luxury hotel in Dubai. May 2005 saw the announcement of plans for ‘Palazzo Versace Dubai’. The ‘Palazzo Versace’ has a number of suites and luxury villas, all of which are equipped with an exclusive spa. Various ‘Versace’ collections are used to furnish the hotel interiors.
In 2008, London’s Fashion Fringe appointed her as its honorary chairman. Colin McDowell and IMG Fashion collaborated on the ‘Fashion Fringe’ initiative to aid emerging designers. In 2009, Donatella requested the revival of ‘Versus’ from Scottish designer Christopher Kane. The brand was once again a major player in ‘Fashion Week’ thanks to the successful revitalization by the pair.
Donatella’s work on the Palazzo Versace hotels in Australia and Dubai has resulted in the brand expanding into luxury lifestyle markets and becoming more well-known.
