An ASR-X musical sampler purchased by his mother in 2000 was instrumental in propelling his career. Eminem, Tupac, Nas, and other great rappers of his generation were the ones who inspired Cole to learn how to tell stories and integrate wordplay into rap. He quickly started posting his songs on internet sites, gaining popularity through his moniker ‘The Therapist’. His career took off after he appeared on the albums of other stars. After releasing his second mixtape, ‘The Warm Up’, Cole appeared on Jay-Z’s ‘The Blueprint 3’ (2009) and Wale’s album, ‘Attention Deficit’ (2009) on June 15, 2009.
‘Beyond Race’ magazine chose him as one of the ’50 great breakthrough artists’ in 2010 and in the same year he embarked on a college tour where he performed several times with Wiz Khalifa. A freestyle album titled ‘The Last Stretch’ was released by Cole in June.

This persona was maintained by Cole as he released his third album, ‘2014 Forest Hills Drive,’ which went on to become double platinum. “4 Your Eyez Only” and “KOD,” his fourth and fifth albums, debuted at number one on the Billboard Charts, broke streaming records, and touched on social topics such as drug abuse, parental abandonment, depression, and greed.
