Biography
Fairmont, West Virginia is where Nicholas Lou Saban Jr. came into the world on October 31, 1951. From a young age, Saban was instilled with a strong work ethic and discipline by his hometown of Monongah, a small coal-mining town. Nick worked at a gas station and service station owned by his father, where he learned the importance of hard work.
Saban enrolled at Monongah High School, where he participated as a quarterback on the football team. After finishing school, he signed up for Kent State University and was assigned as a defensive back for the Golden Flashes under coach Don James. Saban’s coaching career was established by his pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in business and a master’s degree in sports administration.

Career
Nick Saban’s coaching journey started in 1973 when he served as a graduate assistant at Kent State. Over the next ten years, he was employed as an assistant coach at various schools, such as Syracuse, West Virginia, Ohio State, Navy, and Michigan State. Saban gained recognition as a rising star in the coaching world as a result of his skillful defensive strategy and player development during this period.
The University of Toledo hired Aban as their head coach on December 2, 1989. Toledo was the defending champion of the Mid-American Conference under Saban. Saban left his position as head coach of Toledo after one season in February and joined Bill Belichick’s Cleveland Browns as their defensive coordinator. Saban came to East Lansing, Michigan prior to the 1995 season, and MSU had not won a season since 1990. Saban’s leadership led to regular success until 1999.
Saban’s move to Louisiana State University (LSU) in 2000 resulted in him achieving national prominence. LSU’s BCS National Championship in 2003 was won by LSU, defeating Oklahoma under his leadership. As a college football coach, he became one of the top coaches after his success at LSU.
Saban remained with LSU until 2004 and they were able to achieve significant success under his leadership. The Miami Dolphins’ head coach position was accepted by Saban on December 25, 2004. A 34-10 win over the Denver Broncos marked the start of the 2005 season and Nick Saban’s era. On January 3, 2007, Saban declared his acceptance of the offer to become Alabama’s 27th head coach.
On September 1, 2007, Saban’s Crimson Tide opened the season with a 52-6 win over the Western Carolina Catamounts and in the process scored more points than any other team during the entire 2006 season. The Alabama Crimson Tide Football team has achieved an incredible amount of success under Saban’s coaching, as he is still the head coach.
