Biography
In Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago, on December 8, 1982, Onika Tanya Maraj was born, the name given to Nicki Minaj by her birther: Nicki Minaj. Robert Maraj was her father and he worked as a financial executive. Carol Maraj, her mother, was an exchange teller and gospel singer. Brandon Lamar, Michaiah Maraj, and Ming Maraj, Jelani Maraj are her siblings, along with four others. When Nicki was very young, her parents moved to the United States. Until her mother sent for her and her brother when she was five, she and her grandmother lived in Saint James.
She has been a clarinet player in her middle school band since she was young and has a keen ear for music. Subsequently, she took an audition and was granted admission to La Guardia High School, a school that emphasizes the arts.
