On November 3, 1952, Roseanne Barr was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and her birth certificate shows her birth date as November 3, 1952. She is an American actress, comedian, author, former presidential candidate, and producer. Barr started out as a stand-up comedian before securing a role on the television sitcom ‘Roseanne,’ which aired from 1988 to 1997. An Emmy and a Golden Globe for ‘Best Actress’ were awarded to her for her work on the show.

Barr became a well-known figure in the late 1980s and early 1990s as Roseanne Barr, among other roles. She is also vocal and active in politics. As a candidate of the left-wing Peace and Freedom Party, she received nearly 70,000 votes in the 2012 presidential election. In 2018, ABC brought back Roseanne, Barr’s sitcom.

Biography

Salt Lake City birthed Roseanne Barr in 1952, the year Helen and Jerome Hershel Barr were born. Her parents were both salesmen, with her father being a salesman and her mother being a bookkeeper. In a working-class Jewish family, she was a part of it.

At three years old, Barr was diagnosed with Bell’s palsy, which made her childhood difficult. At the age of 16, she had a traumatic brain injury that caused her to be institutionalized at Utah State Hospital.

Personal Life

Barr’s marriage to Bill Pentland, a motel clerk, occurred in Colorado in 1974. They had three children: Jessica, Jennifer, and Jake. Although the marriage was successful for 16 years, it ended in divorce in 1990.

Barr married Tom Arnold, also a comedian, in 1990. In Minneapolis, she had the opportunity to meet him for the first time and open his stand-up act. The marriage was short-lived until 1994.

Ben Thomas, her personal security guard, was the one who married her for the third time in 1995. The couple underwent in-vitro fertilization to give birth to a son named Buck. Their marriage was able to endure until 2002.

In 2003, she started dating Johnny Argent and currently resides with him in Hawaii.

Career

In Denver, they relocated and she became a strained mother working as a cocktail waitress and window dresser. Her wit and funny insights inspired friends and patrons to suggest she become a stand-up comic, and within a few years she became one of the most popular comics in Denver. In 1983, she relocated to Hollywood and quickly secured employment on the television series ‘Funny’.

She also made little appearances on major shows like, ‘The Comedy Store’, ‘The Tonight Show’, ‘Late Night with David Letterman’ and in 1987, she had her own show on HBO, ‘The Roseanne Barr Show’. Barr’s show on ABC called ‘Roseanne’ made her a popular television figure between 1988 and 1997. In the sitcom, she portrayed herself as a mother who was both tough and tender, with a witty sense of humor. Numerous awards were given to her, including an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and a Kids’ Choice Award.

Although Barr remained angry on TV, she published her autobiography in 1989, titled ‘Roseanne – My Life As a Woman’. During that same year, she appeared in the movie ‘She-Devil’ too. Throughout the ‘90s, she did variety of entertainment projects like: voice-over for ‘Look Who’s Talking Too (1991)’, appearances on ‘Saturday Night Live’ and released another autobiographical account, titled ‘My Life (1994)’.

In the late ‘2000s, Barr became more involved with television – hosted ‘The Search for the Funniest Mom in America’ on Nick, and also co-hosted an hour long political shown on KPFK. She received a ‘roasted’ treatment from Comedy Central in 2012. In 2012, she applied to become a Green Party presidential candidate and announced her candidacy for the party’s 2012 presidential nomination.
