Biography
On September 2, 1966, Salma Hayek was born in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico, the daughter of Diana Jiménez Medina, who is an opera singer, and Sami Hayek Dominguez, who has a prosperous business career. Her family was wealthy and Roman Catholic in Mexico, where she was raised. In order to study at the ‘Academy of the Sacred Heart’ in Louisiana, she went to the US at the age of 12. During her school years, she was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia.
Upon returning to Mexico to study international relations at the Universidad Iberoamericana, she made the decision to seriously pursue acting.
Personal Life
François-Henri Pinault, a French billionaire, engaged Salma Hayek and revealed her pregnancy in March 2007. In September, she gave birth to her daughter Valentina Paloma Pinault.
Hayek and Pinault announced in 2008 that they had broken up their engagement, but they later reconciled and wed on Valentine’s Day, the following year. Their second marriage took place in Venice.
Career
After learning some English and starting to play minor roles, her instincts were correct. It was hard for audiences and filmmakers to overlook her after her performance in the action film Desperado (1995) alongside Antonio Banderas. She accumulated 13 films over the course of five years, including From Dusk till Dawn (1996), The Faculty (1998), Wild Wild West (1999), and Dogma (1999).
Her production and starring in Frida (2002) earned her Golden Globe, Oscar, and Screen Actors Guild nominations. In addition to appearing in various films, Salma used her Spanish accent to voice characters in a few animated features, including Puss in Boots (2011) and The Pirates! Band of Misfits (2012).
