Biography

Trina Evette Braxton was a resident of Severn, Maryland when she was born. The father of her was Michael Conrad Braxton Sr., who was both a Methodist clergyman and an employee at a power company. Evelyn Jackson was a South Carolina native who worked as an opera singer, cosmetologist, and pastor. Braxton’s grandfather on his mother’s side was also a pastor.

Braxton’s siblings include Michael Jr. (born in 1968), Toni (born in 1967), Towanda (born in 1973), Traci (1971-2022), and Tamar (born in 1977). Braxton and her siblings were raised in a religious household, and she began singing in her church choir as her first performance experience.

Trina’s career began when she formed The Braxtons with her sisters, an R&B group that became well-known in the early 1990s. Their initial release, ‘Good Life,’ was produced by Arista Records in 1990. Although the song wasn’t a big hit on the charts, it led to the group signing with LaFace Records, where they became Toni Braxton’s backup vocalists.

Their harmonious vocals were on display on the group’s 1996 album, ‘So Many Ways’, which established their presence in the R&B scene.
