Growing up, she was accompanied by her younger brother Jason Bateman, who later became a well-known actor himself. Kent Battement, her father, is a renowned film producer and director, and Victoria Elizabeth, her mother, used to work as a flight attendant for Pan Am in the United Kingdom.

Justine started her performing career at a young age. She had already made a commitment to a strict schedule on the set of ‘Family Ties’ when she was ready to start college. Due to her contract terms, Paramount Studios advised her that attending college was impossible in the end, preventing her from attending.
