His comedy work, particularly on SCTV and Saturday Night Live, is what makes him famous. Biography

On March 26, 1950, Charles Patrick Short and Olive Grace were the parents of Martin Hayter Short, who was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He was raised by his father, who was an executive at a steel company, and his mother, who was a concert pianist. Three sons and a daughter were among the other five children in the family, Short being the youngest. Three years before his graduation, his mother succumbed to cancer, and his father died two years after his mother’s death.

Martin Short displayed his talents as an actor, mimic and entertainer right from the time when he was a child and his mother provided him with all the encouragement that he needed in order to pursue his dreams. Westdale Secondary School was where he studied in his hometown of Hamilton. In 1971, Martin Short attended McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario and obtained his bachelor’s degree in social work.

Short became romantically involved with Radner during the production, but he wound up marrying her Godspell understudy, actress Nancy Dolman. The couple was planning to adopt three children. Dolman died of ovarian cancer in 2010.

Short became a professional stage actor in 1972 when he appeared in a Toronto production of Godspell. The cast included Levy, Andrea Martin, Gilda Radner, and Victor Garber, as well as musical director Paul Shaffer.

His successful career as a comedian was paved by the zany improvisations he did with the Second City comedy group, which he joined in 1977.
