Martin Hayter Short, CM (born March 26, 1950) is a Canadian entertainer who also acts, writes, sings, and produces. His comedy work, particularly on SCTV and Saturday Night Live, is what makes him famous. He has also starred in many popular comedic films such as Three Amigos, Innerspace, Pure Luck, Jungle 2 Jungle, Mars Attacks!, Father of the Bride, and Father of the Bride Part 2.

Biography
On March 26, 1950, Charles Patrick Short and Olive Grace were the parents of Martin Hayter Short, who was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He was raised by his father, who was an executive at a steel company, and his mother, who was a concert pianist. Three sons and a daughter were among the other five children in the family, Short being the youngest. Three years before his graduation, his mother succumbed to cancer, and his father died two years after his mother’s death.
Martin Short displayed his talents as an actor, mimic and entertainer right from the time when he was a child and his mother provided him with all the encouragement that he needed in order to pursue his dreams. Short became a professional stage actor in 1972 when he appeared in a Toronto production of Godspell. The cast included Levy, Andrea Martin, Gilda Radner, and Victor Garber, as well as musical director Paul Shaffer.
His successful career as a comedian was paved by the zany improvisations he did with the Second City comedy group, which he joined in 1977. Before starting his film career, he was a regular on Saturday Night Live (1984–85). He has appeared on film in Father of the Bride (1991), Father of the Bride Part II (1995), and Mars Attacks!
